Durability IS In Our DNA

At Carhartt, good enough has never been good enough, and never will be. Our story begins in 1889 with our founder, Hamilton Carhartt, working closely with railroad engineers to build a better denim bib. Five generations later, Carhartt proudly remains family owned and operated, and still just as dedicated to making durable, high-quality workwear today by engineering the best materials, learning from real workers out in the field just like you, and standing behind our work with our Built to Last Commitment℠.

Purpose Built From The Fiber Up

While some brands buy their fabrics, we engineer our own to control the durability of everything from lightweight tees to heavy-duty duck overalls. The integrity of every fabric begins with the fiber and is brought to life through the weave. Each fabric goes through more than 15 durability tests to ensure optimal end use functionality and durability. We also pride ourselves on using the highest-quality trim components and hardware that stand up to the daily demands of the hardworking people who trust our gear.

Built Tough Once So You Don’t Buy It Twice

Every manufacturing decision we make–from creating a stronger zipper to triple stitching felled seams in high-stress areas–improves the overall quality and durability of our gear.

It Won’t Work If You Can’t Wear It

If our gear doesn’t work on the jobsite, then it doesn’t work for Carhartt. That’s why our design process begins and ends with the people who wear the final product. We study how people move on and off the clock to build better fitting, longer-lasting gear that resists rips, tears, snags, shrinking, and pilling. From site visits to better understand demanding environments during initial product design to field testing prototypes with the Carhartt Crew, we know that the only way to build gear that truly serves and protects hardworking people is to listen to them.

The Carhartt Built To Last Commitment℠

Last year our Carhartt Repair Program serviced over 5,000 items with the care and attention to detail they would use repairing their own garments. Repair requests can range from reviving vintage jackets to patching lived in overalls. And while we can’t repair every item that gets sent in, we stand behind the quality, craftsmanship, and performance of every product we make. If any of our gear should fail to meet your expectations, we’ll work to make it right through repair, replacement, or credit.* You can also find DIY repair kits here.
